Get better about hiring outsiders into other C level roles, seriously think twice about a COO without significant airline experience.

The "O" matters. Operations is what separates an airline from an airplane
museum. I'd be more forgiving of an outsider from Pepsico and Six Flags
coming in as CEO than as COO. Outside perspectives are important, but so
is deep domain knowledge and experience. I would argue operations would be
the one area most heavily weighted to the latter (*maybe* TechOps?).
 
Fun fact: They usually sell Pepsi at airplane museums.

Oscar Munoz as a railroad guy did fairly well with United. Linda Jojo as a
telecom person did fine as our CIO. We have a bunch of ex-GE folks who
came over to United IT via chain migration, and I have to say they've all
picked up the airline domain pretty damn well.
 
Then there's Andrew Levy with his prior airline experience being hired as
United's CFO. That's still up for debate with some of us as to its success.

6,890 ft (2,100 m) was from old DAFIF data. I started work on importing data from AIP Argentina a few years ago but ... SQUIRREL! ... and that effort stalled. The format for AIP data is sort-of standardized but each country has its own quirks (and a few are just plain wrong) so pulling this data into GCmap is a major project.
 
In lieu of that, I manually transcribed the latest data for SABE (AEP) and it's now live on gcmap.com. That data says the runway is now 7,710 ft (2,350 m) long. Dunno where Simpleton Flying came up with their number but it does not appear to be correct.

I flew down to AEP with the tape measure and measured the runway. It looks like it's now ~8,800 ft. A few years ago, it was LGA length: ~6,900 ft.
 
The before and after aerials show how the airfield was expanded.

GCM lists the runway at Buenos Aires Aeroparque at 6,890 ft but this article says it's been enlarged to 8,530 (2600 m). Maybe Karl can confirm. That's still limited for a fully loaded A330 but it changes the competitive options for the country.

My first flight on an A320 (and my second on any Airbus) was on 27 December 1994, UA 149 ORD-SFO in 1A, aboard none other than N401UA.
 
My first flight on any Airbus was on 16 July 1991, PA 481 LAX-SFO aboard N216PA "Clipper Houston" which was an A300B4-203. That remains my only flight on a twin-aisle Airbus.
 
Despite my dislike for the A320 family, I've logged 69 flights on them, including the A318, A319, A320, and A321. (Just one on an A318, and two on an A321.)
